Investigating the potential novel therapies against L. donovani has captivated research in the field of parasitology and biochemical pharmacy. In that vein, Phytochemical investigation of stem bark of Oroxylum indicum has resulted in the isolation of an interesting phenylethanoid glycoside 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)ethyl-O-α-L-rhamno-pyranosyl(1→3)-4-O-caffeoyl-β-D-glucopyranoside, first time isolated from this plant, along with two known flavone glycosides and three known flavones. The phenylethanoid glycoside was found to be a potent inhibitor of Leishmania Donovani through inhibition of LdDNA topoisomerase IB. Further research need to shed further light into the present topic. %U
